Apparently you can buy it in the UK ( http://www.melatonin-info.co.uk/ ) so importing it shouldn't be a problem - but I don't know.

Thanks for the link! You seem to be able to buy it online...but not over the counter. It appears to be prescription only from what I've heard.

The Medicines Control Agency declared in 1995 that melatonin should be restricted to prescription, as it is a hormone. Canada has taken a similar stance. However, across the border in the US, melatonin is sold freely as an antioxidant or food supplement. At present, it is not unlawful for UK residents to bring melatonin into the country if purchased legally elsewhere, but it may only be distributed here on prescription on a named patient basis only. I have absolutely no idea. But may I suggest you stop waiting up all night for your boyfriend to finish work and perhaps try getting some early nights instead, young lady! *pointing finger at you* : )

I wasn't aware of the urgency and I was just chatting really and trying to come to a conclusion for you.
I never claimed to be an expert on UK anything I do however know about things from this end, I though it might help. Sorry I wasted your time.

No, you didn't waste my time at all. I'm sorry my comment came off as harsh, I didn't mean it to.

There is no requirement that prescription drugs be patented. Patents are there to protect the developer of the drug from infringement by others. Prescription requirements are there to protect the public from taking drugs that may be dangerous without doctor's supervision. The two protections have nothing to do with each other.

What's with the evil grin? No, I can read them if there's just more than one answer because I have to 'read all answers' first. Don't ask me why, it's doing my head in.

I understand from a uk chemist that melatonin is only available in the uk on prescription, it appears the uk sites offering it online are either doing so illegally or may well be traps, yes i fell for that racket years ago, at the time you think ok they sell valium, xanax, diet slimming pills etc, so i ordered them, oh yes after checking out the uk law on importing phentermine, valium, zanax etc and it was ok, not illegal, even checked out at a main libary law section, even got a solicitors ok and my gp confirmed ok to buy from a dummy (realise now setup site) supposed to be in south africa called speedrx, what a absolute fool i was, i knew at the time my computer was hacked, my gp kept prescribing rohypnol for sleep and always said the home office will be asking questions soon, it all adds up now since i stopped taking those drugs, i feel like the biggest mug on earth, how daft was i, if only i could relive my life.

Still whats done is done and all in my past, i have grown to learn how bad drugs are and the harm they cause, i don't blame my gp, although i always got told you must not stop taking your valium or you could havea fit etc, cobblers, about 15 months ago i went into hospital after taking a overdose which no one there mentioned but within a couple of days my valium was stopped and god i thank them for doing just that, i was prescribed risperidone a nightmare drug with rotten side effects, still i got a punishment fully deserved, i moved from london to the country and slowly got better, my depression totally went away, i was confident in myself, happy everyday, respectfull and now i'm trying to wean myself away from my prescription drugs, i would never buy online drugs again or come to that consider taking drugs, i have come too far, my life now is meaningfull and i do not intend to loose it or my mind to any drugs, my advice to everyone is never consider taking any drugs from a online source or gp, infact stop taking all drugs, they are the eveil of mankind.

This doesn't answer the question and in fact, your advice is pretty dangerous.
Avatar reformed Sep, 17 2008 at 01:37 PM
It was not meant to be dangerous, i do not know what part you are refering too, maybe the internet address where i bought those drugs, no worries it closed down many years ago.
I was simply trying to warn people how they can without thinking run into traps and may well be buying banned goods, anyway i do not think the uk would have banned melatonin for nothing.
