I haven't had any since the ones I've received for my 18th either. My mother buys them every week, and has never won a large amount of money. I sat down and figured out how much she's spent in the last 20-something years, and it was well into the thousands. My opinion: yes, you would be wasting your money.

I bought them twice a week, Wednesday and Saturday.

Yes I buy them every week and never check them. I just carry on buying my Husbands and my Mother in laws, just because I feel I should.

i have never bought a lottery ticket... aside from a 50 cent scratch off card on my eighteenth, but that was just novelty and i won my money back anyhow... the lottery is designed so that the state always has the upper hand. often times even when you see a large jackpot nobody wins it... and then all the proceeds go straight to the state anyhow. even the winners dont get the money immediately... the state invest the money and pays you back with the dividend over the next 20 years or so and if you die the payouts are not willable, only the money you had already collected would be passed down. at least in most states thats how it works... nonetheless, the main issue here is that lottery is nothing more than taxation on the poor. the state gives lower tax rates to lower income individuals, but they put things like this in place to bring in huge amounts of revenue from the same individuals they act like they are trying to help. think about it... when was the last time you saw a wealthy man buying a lottery ticket? what gets me even more is how they advertise it. ridiculous over the top ads that illustrate that everyone is going to win... and the worst part is that the ad agencies are payed with taxpayer money. forget the lottery.. if you truly must gamble, play a game that gives you some chance to fight for yourself like poker or even blackjack... chance games are for those with nothing better to waste their money on.

Well i won over £2.000 a couple of months ago so i cant complain and won £5s and £10s since.

I don't buy them, but remember, you can't win if you don't play. From an odds standpoint, buying one or twenty doesn't really matter. Save the extra money and just buy one. Your odds of winning are essentially the same. Note: Instead of cash, I give my mailman $20 in lottery tickets each Christmas. He's still delivering, so I assume he hasn't hit it big:)

waste of money

Depends on what you want out of them. My husband and I buy 1-5 tickets every drawing. We know we probably won't win, but we talk a lot about the 'what if'. It makes it fun for us just because of the dream talk.
