  • Sunday school was along time ago, but I was told that daily bread refered to that which we needed to feed us everyday, not just our body but also our soul. Opps, a serious answer *has another beer* :-)
  • It is an acknowledgment that all that we have ultimately comes from God. He created everything. He gave us the skills and intellect with which we go out and earn our living. Without him we would have nothing. So, asking Him for our daily bread is show our gratitude for what he has given us. I also like Rince's answer about it referring to asking to be fed spiritually as well as physically.
  • If you get bread delivered then you earn too much...
  • In line with what Rince said; Deuteronomy 8: 2-3 (King James Version): And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. also in Matthew 4:4: But he answered and said, it is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. and Luke 4:4: And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
  • "Give us this day our daily bread." We are God's children. What can be more childlike than this petition in which we pray for our daily bread, a word that describes all those physical, human and spiritual gifts we need to live? With the confidence of children we say: "Give us this day what we need." By the way, sadly, a significant number of the world's cupboards are not full of food. With love in Christ.
  • It's a way of showing thanks for being lucky enough not to one of the billions of starving people in the world and realize that we are fortunate where many others are not.
