I neither loved nor hated his voice, but couldn't stand his phrasing.... I know.. I'm in the minority.

I don't think he was as good as Dino or even Perry Como, but he was ok. I like "When I was seventeen" by Ol' Blue Eyes. Gotta say, nobody sang that particular song quite like he did.

Interesting thing is, when it came to "crooning" he could do it with the best of 'em (as was demonstrated in the late 30s/early 40s). But then he became another voice entirely (and is arguably the first rapper--even though I admittedly hate rap). He stopped "singing" (in the traditional sense) and just sort of talked the lyrics.
