How do you play particularly large chords (like 12 whole steps, with notes in between) well? I know you're supposed to break the chord, but I can't play it smoothly nor efficiently. I need to be able to play it quickly as well.

A good thing to do is to practice more arpeggios. If you can play those well, doing a large chord will be easier. Practice is always the key word.
