Tough call. Personally I like Gene Kelly more because his choreography seemed more creative and his story-telling in dancing was great. However, Fred's work dancing on the ceiling and with firecrackers in "Holiday Inn" were wonderful. I wonder who you preferred: Ginger Rogers or Cyd Charisse?

Fred Astaire was classical while Gene Kelly energetic and modern (for its time). I can't choose between them they were both great.

They are both fantastic dancers with different styles. Gene was more athletic and Fred was more graceful I guess you'd say. I love to see Gene dance the most but Fred is fantastic too.

I'm a dancer myself and the main difference between the 2: Gene is a dancer that thinks and then dances. Fred is a dancer that dances and THEN thinks! In other words Fred is a natural dancer plus he was schooled as well. With those ingredients there is no way that you could top that!! 1. Fred Astaire 2. Gene Kelly 3.????
