  • Another thing (in addition to the other answer) that you can do is this. After shampooing your hair rinse it with a solution of 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water. Not only will your scalp become healthier, but your hair will have that healthy shine. My son used to have dandruff and I told him to do this-now, no dandruff and beautiful hair. Also, don't wash your hair every day; this just strips the essential oils out. Try only washing every other day and deep conditioning at least once per week. For deep conditioning you can use your regular conditioner, but don't rinse it off, just wrap a towel around your head for 15-20 minutes then rinse. Not only does it promote healthier hair, but it also helps to reduce dandruff by moistening and conditioning the scalp.
  • I second the vinegar rinse. Try a teaspoon per quart of water and adjusting it to suit you. I also second not washing every day. Try apple cider vinegar if you have brown or red hair and white vinegar if you're blonde. You can try washing with conditioner before and after shampooing, and/or switching to conditioner only washes. These methods help moisturize the scalp and hair. The scalp can react to shampoo by producing more oil or flaking since shampoo is over cleansing for some people. (You can actually make the problem worse by overwashing.) I didn't have much dandruff, but sometimes my scalp would flake. Since using conditioner only to wash, my scalp and hair are happier. I noticed that I had almost no flakes with the vinegar rinses. I use Avalon Organics Tea Tree Scalp Conditioner if I get a little dry, and it helps a lot. You can also try essential oils. Rubbing rosemary diluted in jojoba oil into your scalp can help with dandruff. I know there are others, but I haven't tried them and don't know them off of the top of my head. You might want to check with a dermatologist if it's really bad or the problem persists.
  • anti dandruff shampoo. selsun blue shampoo works great
  • thanks =] its been a few weeks, its almost gone! that vinegar really works!
  • My daughter had sever dandruff problems. The best thing for this problem is shampoo with tar in it. But the more tar the better. Some only have 1% tar which did not help very much, but if you really check you can find some with 2% tar. The other solution is to go to a Sally's Beauty Supply Store, or any Beauty Supply Store and ask for a shampoo with a horse on it. I can't think of the name but they will know what it is. Something like "Horse and Mane". It sounds crazy but our doctor told us of this shampoo and it works wonders. I've also found smaller bottles of it at "Family Dollar Stores" if you have them. Good Luck!
  • I would contact a lady I know called April- her email is goodnitedandruff@gmail.com she gave me some cream that got rid of all my dandruff within two days. It was simply short of a miracle. I bought five bottles and swear by it. I had been to the doctors several times and tried every shampoo on the market.
  • Use a medicated shampoo especially for dandruff and if that doesn't work, go to the doctor, you may have psoriasis.
