Why does a person's love turn into abusive love?

love is rarely unconditional -- usually people want change in some way -- and feelings of jealousy, resentment, anger (etc) start tainting the love. Or maybe when the lover realizes the lovee is not the perfect fantasy he or she imagined, control issues start to raise their ugly head.
