  • Apologize.
  • If he feels like you made an idiot of him the best way is to apologise in a way that makes a bit of an idiot of you- offer to do something embarrasing that will make him laugh as a kind of evening out gesture (let him pick what, but be warned, last person I knew did this ended up running down the street in their underpants- but it worked!). Alternatively make an extravagant gesture like buying him a really special gift and attaching a personally written note saying how genuinly sorry you are. In some situations just saying "I'm sorry" doesn't cut it
  • An apology isn't enough - this person needs to know you can be trusted, so you will have to eat crow for awhile. "I'm sorry AND WILL NEVER HUMILIATE YOU AGAIN" is what this person needs to hear and believe. Allow your victim the time to be angry and hurt, and take every opportunity to say, "yeah, that was in really bad taste, I wish I hadn't done that" and "I wasn't thinking, I should have known it would affect you this way".
  • Tell your friend that you didn't mean to upset them and that you're sorry.
