Gargle with warm salt water...as warm as you can stand it. A mixture of honey and lemon can be soothing, too.

Do you have postnasal drip? Do you have allergies?
Is your nose runny? If so, you need to use a decongestant and some Sucrets, stat!

You may need more than a home remedy! Are the glands in your neck swollen? Do you have white tonsils, or what look like blisters on them? Do you have a fever? Check all this and if the answer is yes, go to your doctor as it may be a strep infection and it won't go away by itself. (I get strep frequently)

Have you gargled salt water? That often helps a bit with an infection if that's what you've got...in any case, it won't do you any harm. Make sure you don't swallow the salt water though, it'd probably make you throw up.

You could also try sucking ice cubes, that helps numb things a bit.

a warm salt water gargle - it tastes gross but it always works for me - do it every few hours until you feel better

Gargle with salt water and lemon juice, then suck on a lemon.

Sounds weird, but it works for me.

Thanks for asking that question! My boyfriend and I both got a sore throat last night! He's been sick but now I guess we both are!

Slippery Elm tea is good. I keep that handy during the cold and flu season.
