  • I have heard there is a fuel out there that, in the right engine, can give a performance that is about the same as a Diesel engine but with one HUGE difference! The MPG (KMPG) is ALOT higher! And the only emmisions is water vapour! If this is true then YES it definatly is a good thing!
  • There is a very significant problem with biofuels that I don't think that any one has really addressed. This problem is the land area that would have to be put into cultivation in order to replace fossil fuels. Many environmentalists complain about our encroaching on wild lands. If we were to switch to biofuels, this problem would increase many fold. Remember, most of our agricultural lands are already used to produce food to feed us and much of the world. So, if we were to switch to biofuels, then we would have to open up much more land to agriculture. Then there is the problem of supplying the water needed to raise the crops. There are many parts of the country where cities, farmers, and environmentalist are fighting over water rights. Farming for biofuels would just make these problems worse. So, no, I don’t think that the government should be pushing for biofuels. The technology and resources are not there.
  • We have many excellent electric motors ... but we need a good reliable and portable source of electric power for electric vehicles, maybe better batteries, and then lets go to geothermal steam-electric turbine for our electric power and our clean water..
  • recycling cooking oil would be a great alternative too...the whole city would smell great as a by-product. LOL
  • i think it's a good thing, but there are many factors to consider. in the end, i think it's important to work towards using alternative sources of fuel. and while i am a big propenent of ethanol, i don't think we should be using food-grade corn to be making it. hemp would be a *much* better solution. it doesn't require all the pesticides, it wouldn't take away food from anybody, it grows in almost any climate, it requires much less water than most grains, it can be harvested multiple times a year and it has a higher yield per acre. speaking of hemp, why are we clear-cutting old growth forests for paper again?
  • Pragmatically speaking, right now I think its good, because its a nice 'intermediate' fuel for transitioning into zero-GH gas energy production. It gets people thinking green in an acheivable way. As a longer term answer, Id prefer solar/wind/tidal
  • i think it a good idea, even though they are some problem. the reason is because biofuels produce ernegy without increasing carbon in the atmosphere. when this crops grow they take they remove the carbondioxide from the atmosphere, in contrast fossil fuels return carbon dioxide, therefore theoritically biofuels are less likely to cause greenhouse gasses.biofuels are also biodegradable. but instead of using corn, algae can be used for fuel, since it does not require any fertilisers.
