Gosh, I wish you other answerers lived near me! I would then feel free to treat you immorally. I could lie to and deceive you, cheat and defraud you, assault you and harm you, lie to and about you, and when you objected quote your own words back at you. Although a lot of people act immorally or even amorally, they expect other to treat THEM morally and object vociferously if others don't. Because we all recognize a higher standard--not a moronic standard--a HIGHER standard by which we judge others and expect them to judge themselves, even if we want to think ourselves free of that standard. Morality doesn't come from morons. It is a HIGHER standard, and we all recognize large parts of it as coming from something higher than ourselves. Except that there is no "thing" higher than ourselves, so that it must come from Someone higher than ourselves. Some of us recognize that the Torah and the Sermon on the Mount exhibit a higher morality than we've been able to find independent of them. The Sermon on the Mount exceeds our capacity; and even at its lowest point, the Torah is higher than mankind's best; for example, the Torah tolerates slavery, as did every other culture in history until a group of 12 British Christians started getting it outlawed. But ONLY in the Torah of Moses did slaves have rights, and only in the Torah were people commanded not to return runaway slaves, which was the first time in history that slaves had any ways of enforcing those rights.
