Life would not necessarily be less precious but the absence of the fear of death would leave you in a state where you can make your life all that it can be, thus your endeavours and achievements would make you feel that your life is more precious than ever (whatever you decide is an endeavour and an achievement).

If you are for all intents immortal then if you were to actually die then you would loss an immeasurable number of generations of life. So in that sense life would be unbelieveably precious, yet after living such a great length of time you may become intensely vain and even life itself may no longer matter to you. They say you live the most in the briefest of durations. Which is the correct interpretation?

According to the Bible, God is merciful in not destroying any of His creations existence-wise, as C.S. Lewis would say, we are all eternal spirits in a world that tries to hide our true identity from us. I mention this to make my point. The preciousness of immortality or eternal life depends on where you spend it and what your circumstances are. Biblically, there are only 2 places you can spend eternity, in a place of peace, or a place of eternal punishment and damnation. My point is that in such a place of torment even if one wished they had "never been born" they might wish not to have immortality. If one lived in the presence of God for eternity (i.e. the Heaven concept) then that means being in the presence of all that is God: love, peace, joy, justice, compassion, etc... Consequently, being in the place of eternal separation from God means being in the eternal absence of those things, or injustice, hatred, evil, sorrow, pain, etc... It's all going to depend on one's circumstances, inward nature (and Biblically you only reach Heaven by becoming a new person, being "born again" -John 3:3). The Bible speaks of those who commit such crimes that it would be better for them to have never been born, meaning existence can be something not to be desired: Matthew 26:24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. Ecclesiastes 6:3 If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he. Matthew 18:6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. ======================================================================================================== EDIT: The question only asked about immortality, simply because one does not want to take it to mean that physical death can't be involved in it, does not nullify my answer. Immortality is about eternal existence, whether in this life or another.

One of the things that make life worth living is learning and being surprised. If you were immortal you would know everything and be bored like God was. In fact, God was so bored he got his council together to help him enjoy life more. After many days God and his council got back together. It was suggested that God should go down upon the earth and become every body and every thing. This way he could surprise himself all the time. I heard that he did this. So don't be to surprised when you look into another's eyes! lol

The word "precious" usually indicates to me that it is a rare or scarce commodity of value. Something that's one of a kind, irreplaceable, is precious. Something that is common and renewable, is not. Our lives are more precious because they are short; if they lasted forever, they would be less so. But each life is still unique and not reproducable, so they would still have value. Life would still be good, just in a different way.

Think of it this way- In a large city, every case of murder does not make it on the TV news. There are just too many, it's too commonplace, so it is not newsworthy. In a small town, if there is a murder, it becomes big news for years because of how rare such an event is. Now, death is commonplace, so death is seen as normal and natural- so life has little value. Lives are tossed away for things as unimportant as the price of oil. If humans were imortal, death would be rare, thus life would be of more value.

In some respects life would be lived to the fullest, because the immortal person would have more time to experience things. However it would not be as precious, a child values $10 more than a billionaire, because that is all they have. There is a reason that everyone dies.

More precious. But I'd kill myself after a couple hundred (or thousand) years
