I think Jesus was probably (if he exsisted at all) a very great prophet, an enlightened man.
-
If he really did exist, he would only be just another being in a city filled with other beings.

Great man, misunderstood by his peers and townspeople, died a martyr for what he believe in and was buried and that is it. Besides the Bible, if Jesus was who he said he was and performed all those miracles and rose from the dead, there would be books and citings galore about this man. I think it happened (if it did at all) pretty much the way most men go - live, work, die.

It's probably an embellished story and/or a composite of characters.

I believe that Jesus existed and I believe that he was a leader in his time. I also think that reports of his life have been greatly embellished over the centuries, just as have the lives of many great historical figures.

Either... 1) A charismatic delusional schizophrenic who thought the voices in his head were God (who he imagined to be his father) and managed to convince a small group of people to follow him and write grandiose stories about him after he died. OR 2) A total piece of fiction, possibly with the main character named after some guy in da hood.

I believe in the life of Jesus as a man. As far as a leader of a new religion he was not the only one. At that time gnostic cults were everywhere. Christianity started out as a gnostic cult. Probably, due to his persecution, Jesus's life and story was told more often then the others, helping to establish the beginnings of the faith, as well as the story of his miracles and rebirth. There is a really interesting book about a "newly" discovered gospel, that of Judas. Its called the Lost Gospel Of Judas of Iscariot by Ehrman. It interprets the newly discovered gospels as presenting Judas as Jesus's savior for he delivered him to those who would kill his physical self. allowing his spirit, which was his true self (a very gnostic idea) to be liberated.

Tons were written about Confucious who lived thousands of years before Christ and those people had paper to write on and were just as literate or illiterate as those in Jesus area and time. No, I still think what he accomplished was necessary and confinded to his band of followers and nothing more. What they did with that information over the years is what has snowballed and 'made' to be believable.

More likely than not, Jesus did not exist. Nothing was written of him during the time when he supposedly lived. Actually, nothing was written till 40 years after he supposedly died. For all other historic figures there is a great deal of evidence of their lives from the time period they lived. Plus, in the 40 years after his "death" and before any written accounts, the only account we have is Paul- and he did not even consider Jesus to be a human being at all. To him, Jesus was a God period, not a God made flesh. http://www.thegodmovie.com/clip-Trailer.php Plus, there are numerous mythical figures that have stories very similar to the Jesus Myth- and it is well known that as mythical stores get passed from culture to culture, they are "transformed" and "blended" so they they occur within the new culture. http://www.medmalexperts.com/POCM/

He was just another political figure who wanted to change the world. And even though I disagree with a lot of the things he said, I think he was probably a very good guy.

A preacher, who was a man of his time with ideas that we still regard as enlightened today. Probably preached for a couple of years before being arrested. Miracles are folk tales told afterwards - reported miracles were standard fare for the time, and the church still reports miracles to justify canonizations. Was arrested, and after a trumped up show trial, crucified. Managed to survive the crucifixion - which is not totally surprising for a very fit man at the prime of life IF the stab in the side was poorly executed. I regard it as more likely, other things being equal, that a Roman squaddy wanting to get back to his barracks was incompetent than that a man came back from the dead. Preached, or at least hung out with the old crowd, for a few more weeks before deciding that one crucifixion was enough, or came across a patrol which decided that since Pilate had said he was dead, they would ensure that it was so.
