Why is most pornography aimed at a male audience?

Because most societies try to suppress sexual desires and fantasies in women. This is why a sexual active woman is looked on as "bad" while a virgin is "good". However with some steps in social and economic equality for women has also come more equality for sexual enjoyment and this includes the use of pornography. Also now that women no longer have to seek out pornography in sleezy "adult" bookstores and theatres they can view pornography in the privacy in their own homes and this has increased women's interest in porn.

But while increastly more pornography is being made for women, still the majority is aimed a men because they still pay more and make of the majority of those actively seeking pornography.

Males are the biggest consumer. Like any product on the market, it's aimed at the biggest consumer of the product.

Because males are the biggest consumers of it. Our sex drives are twice that of the average woman's. It has been proven that a woman's sex drive doesn't compare to a man's. Men are also more visual than women are, and with most porn girls being so hot, it's just a fantasy that it's us with her and not the guy she is actually banging.

Men are more visually stimulated than women. How many women do you know that get turned on just seeing a naked man? Woman typically need some emotional involvement to get turned on, which is why pornography aimed at female audiences focus much more on storylines than those intended for men.

Because we males are more visual oriented in sex. Women are too, but in some different way. Some other reason is because more men than women can't fulfill there fantasies. Because most men are not likely to have sex with very good looking women in there whole life. Because more men, rather than women, fantasize sex without the aspect of love....and finally because the quest for unmeaning and selfish sexual intercourse with many beautiful partners in a life time interval is just a lost dream for us, and a nightmare which the (not so) contemporary society has brought to us men by the first years of our life...

Because porn is mainly about making money and guys are the ones who have to pay for it lol.

I think it's because, mainly, men are the socially accepted controllers of public sexuality. Women may be given the freedom to call each other 'sluts', but men are generally the ones enforcing standards of gender morality.

I think at least some of that phenomenon is an illusion created by how most people define "Pornography".

Most graphic, visual pornography is targeted squarely at men, because men's minds are constructed more so that they get off on that sort of thing.
However, there's also a smaller (but still present) market of more subtle pornography targeted at women that tends to slip under the radar and/or not be classified as "Pornography" at all, simply because women tend to have subtler tastes in erotica.

So I suppose it could be said that most pornography is targeted at men because men as a group tend to buy more of the more blatant pornography.

Because women can get 'it' when ever they want 'it'. Men have to go looking. When you're fat and hairy, it's easier to rent a movie than get a girl.

On average males think about sex more often than women, therefore we crave it more. It makes good financial sense to aim a product at the consumers that crave it most.

Women have better imaginations than men. They don't need to see the story or hear the bad 70's music. They can imagine all the naughty little details while in the act.

I've wondfered this, too. I get it that men are more visual when it comes to sex. But on the rare occasion that I've wanted porn, I've been reduced to buying magazines and movies intended for gay men. It isn't the same thing, either. A gay man has a different view of what is sexy when seeing a naked man, than women do. It was kind of disappointing. +5

Its not really, Most women who enjoy watching Porn actually like the same things a lot of men do. Its the women who hate porn that find it offensive to women. All the women I have known get as turned on by it as I do.

That really depends on your opinion. Everyone likes different things. I personally find porn appealing because I like to be roughed up a little in the bed room.(ie. hardcore porn and a little bondage). So, as a woman who likes it, wouldn't that kind of porn be aimed at myself as well? Not just a controlling man as some women view it?

Think back to prehistoric days. The caveman was fixated on all things visual to better size up which woman appears the most fertile (free of flaws), and would thusly give him the best offspring. Meanwhile cavewoman wanted to pick out who she though would make the best protector (not necessarily summarized by appearances).

Either male or female had to start it. Most animals are aroused with pheromones. Humans don't have a great sense of smell, we are visually driven. That is why nature has endowed us with large breasts and buttocks, to be seen from afar. And we, females, are experts at advertising our merchandise, aren't we?

Because men are less judged for sex-related stuff -- they aren't generally badly judged for having lots of sex, or put on a pedestal for having none. Women are told to be as "pure" as possible. Men have been viewed as "more sexual" for a long time, so when pornography became more popular and mass-produced, men were the target audience -- they still are, for the most part. And women -- even ones with a huge sex drive -- can get quite turned off by the site of a creepy, faceless man having sex with a woman that's obviously faking it. But instead of thinking, "maybe there's a problem with the porn," people just think this means women are less sexual, or not visually stimulated, or some other such BS. And so it goes.

Men are very visual creatures where as women are able to use thier imaginations alot more. ( though this doesn't mean we do not enjoy it just as much )
