  • How long has you dog been around the cat? Is either one a new addition to your house hold? If so your dog may have to just get use to your cat. My aunt had this problem, her dog would not leave her new cat alone. Her cat scratched him one good time and they have been fine ever sense. Not what you would call friends but more like co-existing.
  • How old is the dog? If he isn't growling or biting. He is actually playing. When he is doing that or you can see him getting ready to lunge, you take your hand and firmly act like your biting his neck and say ch, to let him know thats bad. have you ever seen Dog Wisperer. If you have do that imitation like a bite with your hand. Be firm and everytime you notice him getting ready you do that.
  • Yes. We are also dealing with this situation. You just need to be patient and constantly reinforce to him that interest in the cat is bad. We don't even allow the curiosity wimpering to go on.
  • It sounds to me like he is just playing with her. I would Allow it as long as he doesn't get too rough or try to bite her, She should attempt to protect herself by swatting at him. Animals are amazing creatures give him time He will learn.
  • great question i have a 1 1/2 year old yellow lab and 5 cats were also tryng to figure out how to make them get along OR associate the dog and cat with things they like. so if your dog loves food at dinner time rub your cats with a towel to get there fur on the towel and put the towel under the dogs food bowl the same with the cats
  • http://www.doggiebagonline.com/ This is a FREE dog web site that you can join for additional support in helping your dog mellow towards the cats...they even have a forum that specifically addresses Dogs and Cats and also multi dog families as well as Dogs and Kids! The trick here is to not make the dog afraid of the cat at all, but to condition the dog that GREAT THINGS occur when THAT CAT is around...TREATS...REALLY, INSANELY YUMMY TREATS (no ho-hum mediocre treat..pull out the human grade beef jerky for this training! Cut into very tiny bits!) To start have the dog on lead with a flat collar (no choke no pinch...you can use a Gentle Leader or a Halti...if that's what you normally use and IF the dog does not have a strong aversion to it...I use a Gentle Leader on Hannah for walks...and she accepts if because she WANTS the walk...however...she doesn't LOVE IT!. Having your baggie of cut up Jerky and the dog under control....in the room with the cat or with the cat entering the room (even better) immediately begin to "distract" the dog with the treats, praise, massage...rubs, pets..."oh what a good dog!" You are showing the dog that when he takes his focus OFF of the cat...he is rewarded with PRIME reasons NOT to focus on the cat. AND that every time THAT CAT is around...HE..THE DOG...GETS A LITTLE BIT OF HEAVEN ON EARTH...good stuff COMES WITH the cat..that has nothing to do with the cat per se...except that sitting quietly, pretty much focusing on YOU, the human, rather than the fur ball on legs CAUSES PLEASURE that is better than the cat! THIS is the mentality that you are attempting to condition the dog to accept. As the dog grows in understanding the idea, making the old connection as to what the "game" is..you can try un-clipping the lead. REMEMBER...YOU, the humans, MUST KEEP YOUR REACTIONS VERY CALM AND LOW LEVEL, or else you will stimulate the dog's natural behavior to chase the cat. The exception is with your PRAISE to the dog for ignoring the cat...act as if the cat is BORING in general...TREATS and PRAISE are worthy of a dog's real attention here! And YES...giving each of them an old towel or tee of YOURS to sleep on...and then after a few days switching them...is also a good "con" to run...helps them to get to know each others scent...COUPLED WITH YOURS...and after all...YOU are the provider of ALL GOOD THINGS...so it's a calming, happy smell for them along with the interesting scent of THAT OTHER HAIRY BEAST! Also make a point of working with the dog on basic commands for good manners. If the dog is pretty much rock solid on COME, SIT, STAY, LAY DOWN, LEAVE IT...well then...you've already taught him some ACCEPTABLE ALTERNATIVE BEHAVIORS that you can both use, when he is tempted to bother the cat!!!! (If the dog KNOWS, has learned that promptly sitting down, or coming to you results in something worth his while...why bother the cat? "That cat never once gave me a piece of meat...hell...I'm gonna sit!") We currently have 4 cats and 2 dogs...the house rule between THEM is...if you run, I get to chase you! However...sometimes it's the dog doing the chasing...AND SOMETIMES....it's the cat! (Hannah has been cornered by Sadie at least twice...and reduced to a quivering lump of jello...much to her dismay!) Hannah, my doggie girl, a 5 yr old Shepsky and Sadie...a petite Tux SADIST of a cat, who watches TV, changes the channel BACK if we didn't keep it where SHE preferred it to be...and only eats, drinks or goes potty during the flipping commercials! weird azz cat!
  • all u gota do is let them meat and hopefully they dont fight and if u do smack them till they and 1s they do give them a treat to reward him
