Well, banning alcohol would require amending the constitution. Banning marijuana doesn't.
-
thhatss not the reason at all hahaha. theres aall sorts of long fun legal reasons i read once. didnt really understand but had something to do with hemp:S google it.
-
I think it's all in the taste. Liquor is liquid and pot is smoked. Plus, the smell is dreadful. I would keep the ban based on that alone. Then you get the munchies and start eating and gaining weight. What's the point? A 10 second high?
-
I think it started with the nylon company, Dupont, wanting to sell its inferior nylon rope as opposed to hemp rope. More money and revenue are probably big reasons too.
-
Shouldn't all three be on the same plain?
-
I'll say it again: If they could've banned the other two then they would have. They tried to ban alcohol but it was too deeply embedded into society.
-
It is illegal because the DuPont family had enough money to buy the votes in Congress required to make it illegal so they could hawk their synthetics, orlon, dacron, nylon, etc. If the government had a lick of sense, it would legalize it and tax it and use the tax revenues to fund drug treatment programs for the really dangerous drugs. Prohibition for alcohol didn't work and it's not working for marijuana either.
-
Marijuana can't be controlled, anyone can pretty much grow it anywhere. So therefore it can't be taxed....In other words, the government can't get their finger in that pie.
-
because the world is fucked, id say smoking weed is 100 times safer than drinking because you pay attention waaaay more than when youre drunk, and i think its much easier to grow pot than to breww booze
-
One is easier to tax than the other.
-
What??? Do you mean "illegal" and "approved"? If that is the case then I think that Big Tabbacco has a lot of money invested in lobbying.

I am guessing English is not your first language, NP we all need to learn. Can you please rephrase your question.
-
Sorry I meant; Isn't it unfair that other drugs are illegal to use but cigarettes which are more harmful are easily available and not unlawful?
-
The tobacco industry supports a big part of the economy, that will never be outlawed. And while it is hazardous to your health, the addiction doesn't mess you up emotionally or psychologically like a lot of drugs do, anyone who smokes can still live a normal life. Alcohol is the same, although that can screw some people up a lot more.

Cigarettes kill hundreds of people each day and hundreds of thousands of people each year and are legal, while marijuana has killed no one and is used medically and is illegal. According to a 2006 CDC report, tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States. Cigarette smoking causes an estimated 438,000 deaths each year, or about 1 of every 5 deaths. More deaths are caused each year from tobacco, than all deaths combined from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), illegal drug use, alcohol use, motor vehicle injuries, suicides, and murders. Marijuana has killed 0 people and is used medically and religiously but still illegal. There is no evidence of anyone ever overdosing or dieing from marijuana, in fact, most users of marijuana use it to help there already existing health problems, so why is marijuana illicit and cigarettes not, when cigarettes, as stated on the governments website, kill more people every year then HIV/aids, illegal drug use, alcohol use, car accidents, suicides and murders combined! The only effects researches reported from long term marijuana use are depression, anxiety problems, and short term memory, far less severe and serious than lung cancer and heart disease! Why would the government post statistics on there website saying cigarettes kill more people in the United States than anything else and still not make them illegal, because cigarettes brings in large sum of tax money for them and it plays a key role in the population elimination. 1 in 4 Americans smoke cigarettes. Cigarette smoking kills an estimated 259,500 men and 178,000 women in the United States each year! An estimated 25 million Americans who are alive today will die prematurely from smoking-related illnesses, including 5 million younger than the age of 18. Cigarettes not only bring in a large amount of tax money for our government, but they also keep the population exceeding earths capacity and the growing to large, and the government, instead of trying to better the world, does nothing to prevent our loved ones from dieing due to tobacco use. *Source- Center for Disease and Control, 2006, U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, www.nida.nih.gov/Infofax/marijuana.html

Like cigarettes, marijuana has second hand smoke that can harm somebody just sitting next to you. If I drink a beer and you're sitting next to me I am only harming my own liver. Now if I light a joint, guess who also gets to breath my smoke? Yep, YOU!Let alone you get a contact high. But because Cigarettes are not mind altering drugs, marijuana is. However; Cigarettes, alcohol, and marijuana do have something in common. They all have designated areas where they are legal and where they are not. Everywhere it is illegal to drink and drive or as any other mind alterations under the influence when you drive. People everywhere have a tendency to abuse either substance. Because of that, it created controvercy for those who use them for entertainment or medicinal purposes.
-
Because marijuana is a gateway drug to other very harmful ones. Though there are people who can use it "responsibly," there are many (some people I know included) who go out of control with pot and move onto other worse drugs like LSD or MDMA. It's scary stuff.
-
Cus life isnt fair lol:(
-
Law hasnt changed since the last time times someone asked this question.
-
Because the Government makes a lot of money from alcohol sales.
-
The world is just mad... Deal with it. =D

I am a recovering alcoholic/drug addict. I could tell you a lot of stories but I will just say this so you will understand that I've been there. I have sat on my living room floor with 300 lbs. of grass around me. That said, do not believe that pot can't harm you and do not believe that it doesn't lead to other things. I'm not saying that it must but it definitely can. I have memory problems and I know that they come from the pot. I didn't have the problem before I smoked pot and, although it's been 30 years, my memory has never come back to the level it was before. I walked away from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco on the same day 30 years ago through the grace of God.

Because if they legalized weed,The government would then be admitting that ,A. the war on drugs is not a winable war and therefore show that all of the Billions(yes boys and girls I said Billions with a B)that they are wasting to fight this war have been wasted. And B. The war on drugs allows us to interfear in other countries business (columbia,Peru,Mexico)Where we are allowed to set up strongholds under the guise of the war on drugs and pull the collective strings of said countries government by dangling cold hard U.S. dollars in there face. The u.s war on drugs is causing the deaths of hundreds of us citizens in Mexico and the border towns. The u.s has created a civil war amongst the drug cartels and unfortunately normal citizens are the ones paying....with their lives. just my 2 cents
-
Because alcohol is easier to control and harder to quit..$$
-
Alcohol is legal because it is generally made in the US or if imported, there is tight control. The US government makes billions in the taxes charged on alcohol and they can do this because they control it's supply. Marijuana or formerly known as Marihuana is illegal thanks largely in part to William Randolph Hearst. He played a role in the criminalization of cannabis.WRH(abbreviated) was a famous newspaper tycoon. The paper he used to print his newspapers came from his large investment in northern timber. However , he faced a scary advisory, Hemp paper made from the cannibis plant AKA Marihuana. He responded to this by printing and renaming Marihuana to "Marijuana" , which sounded foreign and menacing. That followed by misinformed propaganda led to its criminalization.
-
Its a conspiracy mannn.. But seriously, i don't really know why. It impairs judgment, but so does alcohol. Someone who is heavily drunk is actually in worse condition than someone who is stoned. You can smoke yourself to death, though. Of course, you can do the same with alcohol.
-
Our lawmakers are all alchoholics.
-
lol, LSD and Pot are both soft drugs, For that person who said you can smoke yourself to death, it's easier to OD on caffeine then pot. You have to smoke lbs of pot to do that, and you won't. Alcohol is physically addictive like heroin, but weed isn't. Cigs are also considered hard drugs. If you've ever smoked a cig in your life you're contradicting what you're saying. When it comes to people growing it, they could issue a license that allows you to grow a certain number of plants for a fee, and fine those who are caught violating it. Half of these answers are half assed, brainwashed opinions. Kudos to the people who have some knowledge behind the issue.
-
I don't know! I've often wondered that myself. If it would be legalized the politicians could tax it to death! And possibly reduce crime! Sounds like a good thing to me. But I also remember that alcohol was once illegal too; remember prohibition? Who knows, maybe some day they'll just make it legal.
-
Because there are more alcoholics than potheads in congress
-
the government would have no control over the sales of it since it can be grown at home. most drug dealers that have a substantiol amount of cash and weed on them also get it for stamp tax fraud and sales. y because they made money without paying taxes. the government would make so much money if they sold it and taxed it
-
Alcohol has been part of our civilization since before we had written language. It's part of who we are and who we have been - a pre-existing condition, in the language of insurers.
-
its because the country is bullshit
-
Marijuana became illeagal because Dupont and other companies had to make money and the only way to do that was to eliminate the competition. Hemp (marijuana) was grown thruout the country and used for numerous products rope, lamp oil, etc... the varity used was not paticaly potent for getting high. another example of what was not a problem untill outlawed. alcohol was outlawed by phohibiton, became legal because of crime. Its all about controll and money.
-
Because old people drink and do not use street drugs, and they hold the votes and the power and they dont want to think about it and hope you will quit and leave them alone. It is just like this, they wont listen to new music, they talk about old cars from 1957 that were a piece of junk , so get used to it and remember to think one day before you start giving old answers to young people
-
Because the government would have a harder time taxing weed since you can grow it.
