  • The energy that allows that to happen ultimately comes from the Sun. It is constantly transforming a small portion of its mass into energy which it then radiates out into space. Earth intercepts a very small portion of this energy and the photosynthetic life on our planet uses some of this to create carbohydrates. These photosynthetic life forms then form the basis for the food chain that ultimately provides us with the food that we need to sustain out population.
