  • There is a fundamental difference between truth (what foods are religiously correct to eat) and fact (how many legs do insects have). It is true that God exists but I cannot prove it. It is a fact that President Bush said he invaded Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction but it is not true. Catholics believe that the Bible teaches truth about God but it is not historically factual at all times. The Bible's primary purpose is to teach us the truth about God and His (or Her) love for us, not to teach facts about history or science. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 105 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect1chpt2.htm === I just thought of something. Maybe insects only had four legs in ancient Bible times and then evolved another pair later. Evolution is proved by the Bible. Just kidding. ==== With love in Christ.
