  • In a word: NO Partly because of urban myths such as this one, Aspartame has become one of the most extensively studied food additives of all time. Its predecessors saccharin and cyclamate also underwent careful long-term testing for many years, before it became very clear that they did not cause cancer or other health problems in humans, as had previously been popularly believed. Now Aspartame has become the subject of similar urban myths, including the myth that it could cause MS, even though there is no evidence for that and much evidence to the contrary. MS is a complex disease with many possible trigger factors, but Aspartame is not one of them.
  • "The Doctor" is a ill-informed. Virtually every study paid for by Searle, the NutriSweet producer says exactly as he just said. Virtually every study paid for by independent sources questions the safety of Aspartame. All of its metabolites are toxic to the human body. Neurologic symtoms are the most common side effects. Aspartame was discovered by accident while formulating an Ulcer "drug." By calling it a food additive, Searle bypassed much of the initial study requirements and opened it up to a much larger market than a mere ulcer drug would have had. Facts & Truth are ALL OVER the place on this harmful substance. Avoid it like the plague it is. The FDA is the most corrupt organization in the Federal Government system. It does NOT have your health and welfare in mind when it approves drugs. If it did, the last few years of drug recalls and law suits would not have been necessary.
