Probably not. And I find it ironic that they sell T-shirts with his face on it.

some of us do...

I'm sure there are some out there who know, and probably more than you would think -- the purpose behind wearing shirts like that is to draw attention... I've seen people wear anarchy shirts, tons of other "anti-establishment" message shirts... trust me, there are plenty out there that know what their shirts mean. Naturally, however, you're going to come across many that are just "trying to fit in" by wearing these rebellious clothes. Those are the ones that will hopefully figure out they should do a little research on the messages that their clothes are (literally) sending.

I think most have a vague idea (why would you want a picture of a random man on your chest if you really had NO clue?) but possibly don't know the entire history. I think the first wave of Che-T-Shirt-Wearers probably knew more about him and had a genuine empathy/respect- and later on it just became an anti-establishment thing. There are several similar examples, like the CND symbol becoming a general symbol for peace, or the Anarchy symbol being seen as punk. Siouxsie Sioux gave an interview once where she apologised for wearing a swastika during her younger days, saying she didn't really have a full awareness of what it symbolised, she just knew that seeing it pissed off the older generation and the values her generation were trying to reject. So my guess is a lot of people wear it just to mark themselves out as anti-establishment.

Having taught history in high school and thus familiar with at least what children are taught it is highly unlikely that at least younger people know the significance. Much of the truth surrounding him has lapsed into legend and to some almost superhuman status. The next time you see one ask the person wearing it. They probobly haven't got a clue.

Not enough do. He was probably the greatest human being to ever walk the earth. I don't understand why his life is not taught in schools. Oh, wait, yes I do-because that would threaten the standing order of brutal capitalism which he spent his life fighting against. Viva Che!!!!!!!!

Yes and no. I think it has become a trend but it's a good trend, maybe people will start looking inot history a little bit more just out of curiosity.

He was a doctor....he rode a motorbike....

Yes. But there are alot of people who only know the one sentence review of this life; Che was a guerrilla fighter in the cuban revolution.

I think to most US teenagers, it's just a fashion statement. They want to fit in and stores like Hot Topic are full of these t-shirts. They have no clue about events that happened over 40 years ago.

Given the huge amount of fear about socialism and communism that exists in the USA it amazes me that anybody in that country would wear a t-shirt with a picture of a socialist revolutionary leader who became a communist and whose organisations were vigorously opposed by the US Government.
