  • Receipts are not supposed to show the entire credit card account number anymore -- just the last 4 digits. I believe this is now the law.
  • Very few places still use a system that shows the entire credit card number. If I do see that, I DO cross it out, and never use my credit card there again. It's NOT being paranoid... it's being intelligent. Not doing so would be foolish. Do you have any idea how much damage can be done with those numbers in the wrong hands?
  • I don't think they have the full number anymore but I always shred my receipt.
  • I'm not overly paranoid, but there are laws that force businesses in the United States to only show the last few digits of the account. If I were to travel abroad, I would probably do this. My platinum MasterCard is zero-liability (though this isn't widely advertised), but I try to limit my risk exposure. Someone is more likely to skim the card or hack into a computer system. The merchant is supposed to keep copies of receipts filed, so I wouldn't be overly paranoid about a passer-by picking up a copy.
