I will be purchasing a 55" tv, (or a little larger) within the next three months - what brand tv & type (lcd, plasma, etc) would be the optimum selection and why?

LCD used to be the best but in the past year or so Plasma has been coming back. I would still stick with LCD if ofc price is ok.

oooh... that's big! i wish i had one... i would go for an hd tv... (they are flat screen and have the best picture quality... and they can be mounted on the wall) sony for design and picture quality... lg for price and picture quality... phillips for price and design samsung (i have one) for picture quality and design all of the rest look good, but are really bad in picture quality... not worth it... ask your local tv shop for more details...

Sony & Panasonic both make excellent tv's, but as far as the plasma, stay away from it. They go bad quickly and are very expensive to replace. i prefer DLP with the mirrors in it. At least 10801 or 1080p.
