I like Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club, Invisible Monsters, Choke). Chuck Klosterman (Sex, Drugs, & Cocoa Puffs) is also allright, depending on what you like =) (Bizzare fiction vs creative non-fiction) Yann Martel (Life of Pi) is great. Jean-Paul Pecquer is my favorite recent modern poet (The Case Against Happiness). Lynn Hejinian is also another great modern poet (Happily) These are writers from the past decade. If we go any further back from that I can give you many many more names =)
