  • Yes. I believe it is called the Nielson Ratings. Housholds through out the country have been sent questionares that track their T.V. viewing on an hourly basis. Now, this was the case several years ago, amd I haven't heard that this has stopped. There may be other means now that will track this information, but the networks and stations need to know who is watching, what they are watching and when they are watching it. This is how they are able to decide advertising rates.
  • Nielsen refers to the solution as an "active-passive meter." Unlike the company's last generation of measuring devices, the new meters -- similar in size to cable boxes -- have the ability to monitor audio codes embedded into programs by TV networks. This allows Nielsen to determine when a recorded program is actually watched.
