well there is no race that is above all the others but its always fun to laugh @ other races misfortune like TAU: crosses between female goats and a smerf GUARD: MY RACE: HAVE FLASH LIGHTS AS GUNS DARK ELDAR: WELL BESIDE THERE 3RD ED CODEX THEY.... WELL THERES A REASON ALMOST NO1 COLLECTS THEM NECRONS: HAVE NO GUNS THAT SHOOT MORE THAN 36" ELDAR: ARE FRAIL AND IF U CORNER THEM THEY GO DOWN LIKE A PILE OF BRICKS CHAOS: THEY LOST ACCESS TO ALOT OF WEAPONS MARINES: THEY ARE TOO POPULAR.. BUT AWSOME 3+ SV, THEY SHALL NO NO FEAR... DAMM MARINES XP
-
All races are good but it depend on your tactics. If you rather play close combat and depend to strength in numbers u should play as ork. But if u like to play far attack i usually play as space marine because i only able to collect 15 space marine and give them 3 sergeants and give them plasma gun for self defense. But its cooler to make your own race just like i wanna do.

got to be the space marines for they are the angels of death and they shall know no fear

Like a few people have said, different people are best at running different armies. Space Marines are a good starter army, since their makeup consists of a few basic units are good for just about any job; you can equip them with long-range lascannon (anti tank sniper, basically), or flamers (anti-horde flamethrower) as just two examples. Also, its not hard to have your army lean for a unit specialization: my Marines are geared for long range anti-tank and anti-infantry engagements, but they are also decent at close-combat too. Orks are geared up for close ranged combat, although they have a few decent mid-long range units, and are more numerous, so if you like the straight-forward, charge-into-the-fray kind of tactics, then the Orks are the way to go. As a similar race, Tyranids operate in the same way, but with more people and less quirks. The Orks have personality in individual units, but aren't as numerous as the Tyranids, who are a lot of cheap units with a few powerful units backing them up. Kind of the same as above, the Imperial Guard are kind of like mass-produced Space Marines; they have got to be one of the most easy-to-kill standard units in the game, but the thing is that there's so damned many of them! One of the cheapest units in the game belong to the IG, and that's the Guardsman. Massed volley fire is in order here, and the IG act like long ranged versions of the Tyranid/Ork armies. But then again, infantry isn't everything in this game; If you like tanks, this is the army for you, since their tanks are among the most numerous. Use the standard Guardsmen to meat-shield your tanks or take out the AT units beforehand. The Eldar are the opposite for Space Marines; They really specialize in their various Aspect warriors, and this is a really tough army to pull off, but when you get it right - hoo baby. Few Eldar units can do both long and short range combat, but when you use your head and get the right kinds of tactics and bring out the best of each kind, then you can really kick ass with this race. Tau are in general a long range army. Their basic unit can shoot almost three times the range of a basic Ork Boy, and can really shred other units if they stay out at range. IF. The Tau, without supporting units like the Kroot, really get themselves in trouble when you're in close combat. There are a few exceptions if you get lucky, but 7-8 times out of 10, expect your unit to get its ass kicked unless you shoot them first. I've seen a single Space Marines Chaplain (Terminator armor) rip through two squads of Fire Warriors (Basic Tau) without getting scratched, but then again he did lose five other Terminators on the way in due to the shots fired. Necrons are very bland in personality, but otherwise they play a good game. I haven't used them much, but they're all Ld 10 (leadership/morale), so its hard to break their morale, and those guys pack a mean punch. The main thing about them, though, is that they're very standard; very little room for modification in the troops, except for their Necron Lords, so if you play the Necron, then its rather restrictive in terms of army specialization without going out and getting new units. Chaos - both Marines and Heretics (Lost and Damned) - are very colorful, and you tend to find yourself between the choice of choosing an alignment (one of the four Chaos Gods) or choosing Chaos Undivided. This means that you have to make a tough call and specialize your units in some way, fast. I don't do much Chaos, so I can't give rock-solid answers on some of these alignments. Some of the Slaneeshi daemons are rather... interesting, though (.Y.) Dark Eldar are kind of messy to deal with: few people collect them for the reason that they're very hard to play right. And again, like their 'good' versions in the Eldar, the Dark Eldar are very specialized, especially with the close in units. They are a raider force, so the basic thing to do is rush in and get hacking, but this really restricts the player to that one tactic. Inquisition and Imperium of Man play rather like the middle-ground of the Imperial Guard and Space Marines, as this army contains units from both armies. Very fun to play, they really let you mix things up. Also, its one of the few all-female armies if you specialize with Sisters of Battle, and the Grey Knights are just pure awesome when you paint them right. However, a lot of the units are soft and squishy, and are too easy to kill unless you got another unit guarding them, so be careful. Which to choose? I'd say starting out with Space Marines is good, since they're tough enough to recover from any mistakes you might make early in your game. Then slide into an Inquisition/Imperial Guard army later on, since I've played a lot of people who let me use a combined army of SM/IG. Play other players with their armies, and see which one you like in terms of style. The easiest choice would be to pick out whichever army you think looks cool, and then play as them.

I hear the necrons are most annoying to defeat.
