  • At first, they did. However, when the Romans defeated the Jewish rebellion and scattered the Jews, the Christian sect began to distance itself from the Jews, and turned its attention to winning converts among the non-Jews. The strict lifestyle did not go down among the Romans and Greeks, and Paul devised the argument that Jesus, in having fulfilled the law by dying for human sin had abrogated the old law and created a new one. This freed his followers from having to observe Jewish ritual law.
  • I'm a Christian, but I'm not Jewish. Why would I try to take part in Jewish traditions? Response: The Bible doesn't teach that Gentiles become Jews when they turn to Christ. Paul certainly maintained the distinction between Jews and Gentiles throughout Romans. This so-called "replacement theology" comes from British Israelism and is nothing but bunk.
  • Actually, this "bunk" as one answer giver calls it is scriptural fact. He's right that Gentiles do not become Jews, but All who accept Jesus become one body - no longer jew or gentile, no longer male or female, no longer slave or free! Galatians 3:28. However, gentiles worship the Jewish God. God has also said that He is not finished with the Jews! Romans 3 and all of revelation tells us that. And technically what we're discussing here is not "replacement theology." That's a whole other heresy - hahaha. No the kosher law is part of ceremonial law which was fulfilled in Jesus' sacrifice. Remember - all of the law was fulfilled . We are free to do all things, but not all things are profitable! 1Co 6:12 & 1Co 10:23 And Jesus said, if you love me, keep my commandments. The commandment He gave was to love onother as He loved us, love thy neighbor as thyself, and love God with all your heart, strength and mind. These commandments encompass all of the commandments of the Old Testament. We keep the commandments because we love Jesus and we are only able to keep the commandments by His power. We are all sinners and we all fall. The law is a heavy yoke and a school master. The dietary laws kept the Jews safe and healthy and taught them to keep God's law.

  • Geekette, that's an outstanding question. Let me give you a BIBLICAL answer, not just what I think about Kosher law. First of all, I am not even going to go into the Torah to defend the mandatory observance of Kosher laws. I will use the scripture that Glenn used to show you that Christians are suppose to only eat foods that are clean. Acts 10:9-16 First of all, the vision Peter saw had NOTHING to do with food. NOTHING. ZERO. What Gd was showing Peter was that through His sacrifice and resurrection, He made all gentiles clean. When your reading scripture you have to understand who is talking and who is being spoken too. This is why so many Christians FAIL at reaching the Jewish people. I will not go into that but will continue on. Who was the Apostle Peter??? He was a Jew of the tribe of Benjamin. Peter knew that Gd would never transgress His own commandments. So what in the world was He talking about. Let me show you the COMPLETE scripture not just half of the scripture which Glenn has shared. Here is some VERY important parts of that scripture Glenn kindly left out. Verse 17 17Now while Peter DOUBTED in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate, Why would peter DOUBT what Gd himself revealed to him? Because HE KNEW that Kosher laws are to be observed until Olam Haba, the world to come. This is why he doubted. He knew the vision wasn't about unclean foods. Now, let me show you the meaning of the vision. The meaning of the vision is found in Acts 10:-28 28And he said unto them, You know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; BUT GD HAS SHOWED ME THAT I SHOULD NOT CALL ANY MAN COMMON OR UNCLEAN. Geekette, if you read from Verse 10 all the way until 28, you will see there is an entire dialogue all stemming from that vision. It's all related from the time of the vision until the revelation. I pray Yeshua will bless you and keep you! If you need anymore BIBLICAL advice, drop me a message.
  • "He is not a Jew who is one outwardly, but he who has a circumcision of the heart." There is neither Jew nor Gentile, slave nor free, but all are in Christ.
  • Kosher laws were from the Old Testament. My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, gave us Ones we are to follow in the New Testament
  • Because the Bible is a lawbook dating back to th year 0. It may have made sense then but nowadays we like have these new laws.
  • Because we aren't Jews who lived 4000 years ago.
  • It was either Peter or Paul who was supposedly given a vision that the Jewish dietary laws were no longer operative. +4
  • Mark 7:18-20 (English Standard Version) 18And he said to them, "Then are you also without understanding? Do you not see that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, 19since it enters not his heart but his stomach, and is expelled?" (Thus he declared all foods clean.) 20And he said, "What comes out of a person is what defiles him. Again: "Thus he [Jesus Messiah] declared all foods clean."
  • (Romans 7:6) But now we have been discharged from the Law, because we have died to that by which we were being held fast, that we might be slaves in a new sense by the spirit, and not in the old sense by the written code. (Ephesians 2:15) By means of his flesh he abolished the enmity, the Law of commandments consisting in decrees, that he might create the two peoples in union with himself into one new man and make peace; (Colossians 2:13-17) Furthermore, though YOU were dead in YOUR trespasses and in the uncircumcised state of YOUR flesh, [God] made YOU alive together with him. He kindly forgave us all our trespasses 14 and blotted out the handwritten document against us, which consisted of decrees and which was in opposition to us; and He has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the torture stake. 15 Stripping the governments and the authorities bare, he exhibited them in open public as conquered, leading them in a triumphal procession by means of it. 16 Therefore let no man judge YOU in eating and drinking or in respect of a festival or of an observance of the new moon or of a sabbath; 17 for those things are a shadow of the things to come, but the reality belongs to the Christ. (Hebrews 10:1) For since the Law has a shadow of the good things to come, but not the very substance of the things, [men] can never with the same sacrifices from year to year which they offer continually make those who approach perfect. (Galatians 4:21) Tell me, YOU who want to be under law, Do YOU not hear the Law? (Galatians 5:1-7) For such freedom Christ set us free. Therefore stand fast, and do not let yourselves be confined again in a yoke of slavery. 2 See! I, Paul, am telling YOU that if YOU become circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to YOU. 3 Moreover, I bear witness again to every man getting circumcised that he is under obligation to perform the whole Law. 4 YOU are parted from Christ, whoever YOU are that try to be declared righteous by means of law; YOU have fallen away from his undeserved kindness. 5 For our part we by spirit are eagerly waiting for the hoped-for righteousness as a result of faith. 6 For as regards Christ Jesus neither circumcision is of any value nor is uncircumcision, but faith operating through love [is]. 7 YOU were running well. Who hindered YOU from keeping on obeying the truth? (Galatians 5:14) For the entire Law stands fulfilled in one saying, namely: “You must love your neighbor as yourself.” (Galatians 5:18) Furthermore, if YOU are being led by spirit, YOU are not under law. (Romans 6:14) For sin must not be master over YOU, seeing that YOU are not under law but under undeserved kindness. (2 Corinthians 3:7) Moreover, if the code which administers death and which was engraved in letters in stones came about in a glory, so that the sons of Israel could not gaze intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, [a glory] that was to be done away with,
