  • Yes they do. However many have a misconception on the Statutes of Limitations. In regard to criminal or civil prosecutions, if they know the violation and crime committed as well as the person, there is no limit on time. Now if you had done 100 MPH in a school zone in 2000, and they didn't know who they were looking for, you would now be able to say with impunity you had done it and authorities could do nothing. If they had been looking for you all these yease it would be, "Gottcha."
  • Traffic violations do have a statute of limitation, but that is essentially irrelevant given the nature f a citation. A statute of limitations refers to how long the government has to bring charges against you. Charges are brought as soon as you are cited for the infraction. Thus, the statute of limitations stops running as soon as the cop gives you a ticket.
