  • Because they dont waist so much money fighting wars they have no business being in in the first place!
  • It is not that the US can not have free healthcare, it chooses not to. This is a political decision, where Canada has chosen what is regarded as the Socialist solution - tax everybody, give everybody the same level of service - whereas the US has chosen the Free Market decision - let everybody decide for themselves what health care they want, then put in a safety net for the very worst off. But for the other than the poorest, you get to make up you own mind - buy cover, or suffer the consequences.
  • Greedy politicians.....;)
  • If you call putting people on two year waiting lists "affording" free health care, then I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.
  • Because the US can't afford free health. But in many respects, us Canadians still must pay for many heath-related things like prescriptions, dentists etc.
  • High taxes. And still, not every part of health care is free, a lot of it requires upfront payment. It has its double edged sword too, like shortage of staff, crap equipment and near lack of basic resources.
  • The US could afford to have free health care, if it really wanted. It`s just a different system. Personally I have never had a problem with the Canadian health care. Unless it has recently changed, I think it works alright.
  • The USA does what ever it can to save a dying persons life, where as in Canada they tend to let people die so they can donate the organs.
  • What most of my fellow countrymen don't understand is that, per capita, we in the US are already paying as much as Canadians are for healthcare. The difference is that it's only government employees and political officials who are receiving that health care. Why? Because of the difference in Canada having a one payor system. It's because of all the paperwork and levels that private health care must go through that causes it to cost so much.
  • Americans, your government has you fooled! All this talk of waiting lists, letting people die for organ donations and what not. The fact is, Canada's healthcare isn't the best, but it's free. People are not left to die, if someone needs care and treatment or they will die, they are going to get it immediately! I may be wrong but from my understanding in the US if you are not well off and your insurance doesn't cover your treatment then you don't receive it, life or death? This is not the case here in canada, if you need your treatment, you get it, especially if it's life or death.
