Is the insistence on really complex and frequent changing passwords for security reasons actually counter-productive, because the more complex a password is, and the more often it changes, the more likely someone is to need to write it down to remember?

Yes....it improves the security against idenity theft....;)

watever password u hav if it is numerical then proceed to the next numeric digit or jumble the same digits so dat it vl be easier to remember same in case of alphabetic passwords...
