When asked where they got their name, they responded "The dictionary." The word evanescence means: a disappearace or dissapation like vapor. They apparently had a horrible name before and wanted something better. They also wanted to do some artwork (with whatever name they chose) and decided to look under E. They liked the word and definition, likening it to the temperal nature of life. For even more info check out www.evanescence.com. It's got all kinds of info from bios to concert dates. They got the name Evanescence from the dictionary. It means to dissapear slowly or to fade away. So I guess they wanted their lame old name to dissapear.

They experimented with names such as Stricken but then settled on Evanescence because they liked the meaning of vanishing.
