Kleptomania is not a disease or a symptom of one.

Kleptomania is a mental illness or a symptom of an underlying mental illness. It's a diagnosis but not a disease. Kleptomania is an impulse-control disorder but there's talk of it being officially recognised as a disease in some areas of medicine and law.

Unlike bodily illnesses, mental illnesses are diagnosed by finding unwanted behaviours in persons or by attributing such behaviours to them. Bodily illnesses like cancer or diabetes are located in bodies but mental illnesses like kleptomania or schizophrenia are located in social contexts. Robinson Crusoe could suffer from cancer, but not from kleptomania.
