  • More importantly, what's Puerto Rico's opinion on that??
  • If they want to join us I think it is a great idea; I have always wondered why it hasn't come to pass!!
  • No 50 is just fine with me. besides adding PR would make it an uneven nuumber.
  • I think PR should become a state ASAP! Unfortunatly PR could not survive if they go independent, which obviously lots of boricua's have noticed because they never vote for an independent govenor. The stupid govenor they have right now isnt tryin to make PR a state he wants it to stay the way it is, a US territory. So we will see who the next govenor is, and if PR eventually does become a state.
  • It is to the advantage of the citizens of Puerto Rico to remain a territory because of increased liabilities and control when statehood is attained. It PR became a state, federal regulations and controls would come into play which they are currently avoiding.
  • Puerto Rico does not want to be a state, there opinion affects more people and should have their own country.
  • Mabye not. I think they shouldn't be a state because they would have also faced the fact that we are in war with Iraq. It would just make a bigger problem.
  • Maybe we should add Puerto Rico and get rid of Hawaii or Alaska. This way they could keep it an even 50. Besides, there are many, many more Puerto Ricans that have emigrated here over the years than native Hawaiians or Alaskans did before 1959 when they became States. I think a lot it had to do with the government wanting their rich agriculture and landscapes and reserves than with the fact that we wanted their cultures.
  • What do Puerto Ricans want?
  • I agree with da Ben, it should be up to the people in Puerto Rico
  • Sounds great to me as long as we merge Rhode Island which does not deserve to be a state with Connecticut so we still have only 50 states. See my question: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/161119
  • Any political status would be better than the colonial one impossed by the USA at this present time.
  • No. Because Puerto Rico has a stubborn government that thinks it can make it on it's own and doesn't want to be included as a part of the 50 states. I just don't think PR should have the right to be a part of the U.S. if they do not even want to be and are too proud of themselves to leave any room to have American pride.
  • WWWhhhhyyyyy do you think that? It's not near, it doesn't speak English, and it would complicate border control.
  • They voted not to be a state, so we shouldn't ask them again.
