It could be possible. When I stay up late than expected, I tend to eat a quick snack or so. When we are still awake, we lose more calories than we sleep as we continue ourselves to the daily lives.

It has to do with the chemicals in your body. Certain ones are only produced while you are in a deep sleep. One of those is an appetite surpressant. And of course, the more tired you are, the more likely you are to sit around instead of do something that will burn lots of calories.

That could be part of it, but I think it has more to do with stress and disruption of the body's natural metabolic cycles than it does with any eating that goes on in the extra waking hours. You might be surprised just how much mental stress (Which usually goes hand in hand with sleep deprivation) can effect how your body processes food. Also, all your body's natural functions are interconnected to one degree or another, so when you're not getting the proper amount of sleep at the proper times, it can throw your whole system out of whack.
