Yard and garden waste, such as grass clippings, leaves, shrub and tree waste, and sawdust and wood chips are ideal fuel for your compost bin. Kitchen scraps, such as coffee grounds, tea bags, vegetable and fruit scraps, and corn husks are also ideal for a healthy compost pile.

The first answer you got seemed good to me. What you do not want to put in your compost is meat and dairy scraps. Also, you want to make sure any sawdust is not from pressure treated wood. You need to be a little carefull with some of your garden waste also. Make sure you do not put plants into your compost that were diseased.
