Yes to all you have said and other things as well. Usually it is a mixture of causes that lead to the behavior most often mixed with other disorders ex: depression, anxiety, OCD...

It is my understanding that anorexic individuals actually suffer from a split or multiple personality disorder. This arises apparently after a short term or long term trauma, which they [had] no control over. One 'side' remains rational -- most people do not know this and 'offer' diet solutions as 'help.' This will NEVER work! Onlly a trained professional, specializing in this (and other eating disorders) is qualified to treat an individual with this ghastly DISEASE. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=PubMed&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=8477293&ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVAbstractPlus http://www.squidoo.com/proanorexia/ Furthermore, we had a two nieces, from the same parents, who had this horrid disease. Beloved and I HAD TO intervine ... they are now completely well and married adults, no longer suffering from this disorder. WE took REASEARCH very seriously -- we were not their parents, but 'only' aunty and uncle. THIS is where we found help for them!
