It is magic because it is my Birthday 9/9
-
because it is 3x3, 3 is the lucky number.

It's my birthday on the 9/9 too :) and if I go even further, it's the 9/9/72 (forget the 19) 9+9+7+2=27 and 2+7 = 9. But it's more to do with the magic of maths, In the 9 times table, all the sums add to 9, example 3x9=27 then take the 27 and do 2+7=9 another one 11x9=99 then 9+9=18 and finally 1+8=9

There are a couple of interesting little mathematical quirks surrounding the number 9. Just take a close look at the multiplication table of 9s: 9x1= 9 9x2= 18 9x3= 27 9x4= 36 9x5= 45 9x6= 54 9x7= 63 9x8= 72 9x9= 81 9x10= 90 The digits of every multiple add up to 9, and as if that's not magical enough, all the way up the line, the first digit gets one higher, and the second digit gets one lower.

Isn't there a Sesame Street song that says 3 is the magic number? (and explains why)
-
Since it is the largest digit we have assigned in our decimal system of logic whereas the next succeeding number is 0 which is the smallest number. It is magic due to the fact that there is no known integer used in our system of logic that is larger.

It isn't unless you add a 6 in front of it :)

Like kevin said it's because 9 is the largest single digit that can be represented in base 10. If you switch over to base 16, then F takes on those same charactersitics. F = F 1+E = F 2+D = F ... etc. if you switch over to base 8 then it's 7 that takes on those same characteristics. 7 = 7 1+6 = 7 2+5 = 7 ... really for any base the "magic number" pertains to any multiple of the largest single digit that can be represented in that base. the quantity that 9 represents is irrelevant. It's a trick of notation.
