One half of the basement can be turned into my room. But we need to finish the walls with sheetrock and install closetmaids and such. Rather than spending less for shelves in my current he wants to go the expensive route. Which one would benefit the most?

first of all, make sure there is a proper vapor barrier behind the sheetrock, and that there is no gap between the floor and wall, this will ensure no mold growth behind sheetrock. It doesn't matter how expensive the closet pieces are if they are not arranged to the user's liking. It's easier to just put up a wooden rack and shelf. Also make sure that a sani-dry or sani-fe dehumidifier is used in the basement to keep smells away from the clothes and reduce bills. -
