No, not ALL. In fact, as individuals we can be very smart. But compared to the rest of the world, we're "young pups" and are still in the peeing on the carpet phase. We'll get there eventually... *sigh*
-
Well consider this. America has the world’s greatest economy. Who do you think built that? America has the greatest universities on the planet. There are many bright people over here. The next time that they name the Nobel Prize winners, have a look to see how many are Americans.
-
We're actually dumber than that. After all, look who we elected President. And if you try to say he was the better of two evils, consider that he had to win the Republican primary before competing with Gore and Kerry.
-
So in effect, you've pretty much answered your own question. You're dealing with stereotypes here, an oversimplification of a diverse group of human beings.
-
One would think that after we accepted Bush's lies over and over again, we were indeed stupid. Lets hope that we don't make another mistake by putting Hillary in office...
-
No, its a sterotype..just as all irish being drunks is a sterotype..there is a little truth in every streotype...but it doesn't apply to everyone.

I am constantly appalled that foreign people think that the images and behavior depicted in the movies, etc., is normal America and American life! They think everything is fun and games here. No one focuses on all the struggles and things we go thru. My own parents lived thru the Depression and worried every day till they died that they might be without a home or food. They were extremely frugal. I personally have lived a time of racial unrest and trying to decide what I believe in in times of great social changes.
-
No, of course not. We have about the same cross-section of people as everywhere else. People have the same variety the world over.

Well, quite honestly, some of us are....But then a lot of us are actually mature people who have jumped into reality and appreciate a good eduacation and a good job. Now, SOME people still need to jump into reality and take their education serious instead of blowing it off and hanging out with their buds or dropping out, or perhaps going to a party in which everyone gets drunk, high, etc. They don't understand that they aren't going to have a good future if they don't take things serious. Those are the truely stupid people I believe, but still, most of us are smart people capable of taking things serious. I hate that media does such things, making rumors or lies for other countries. The 'Irish are all drunks' thing always got on my nerves, weather or not I'm irish or not. I don't even understand the point really XP

In all honesty, the majority of Americans I've had personal contact with have been quite intelligent. I think because a lot of what we see of America we get through TV- which by nature has a higher percentage of stupidity than in the world in general, we tend to associate American accents with being a bit stupid (same as we associate Italian accents with being sexy, and Russian accents with being a bit evil) - but it's not actually true.
-
As with any other country on Earth, there are smart Americans and there are less-smart Americans. What I think *is* true about America as compared to much of the rest of the world is that we have a cultural meme of ignorance and anti-intellecutalism, not stupidity. Compared to people in most other countries, relatively few Americans speak more than one language. Compared to people in many other countries, most Americans are relatively ignorant about their own country's history. Compared to people in most other countries, Americans are relatively ignorant about world geography, world history and other cultures. One need only look at the US invasion of Iraq where (regardless if you agree it was wise/justified or not), the US made a series of terrible blunders in how the invasion was managed. Most of those blunders were caused by US ignorance of Iraqi, Arab and Muslim cultural/social/religious norms. So...No, Americans are not necessarily dumb, we just tend to not pay attention. . . .

No. It's just another common stereotype as seen by those who make generalizations of all Americans based on what they see from the media. 1.) How reliable is most of the information you see in the media? Not very. 2.) Are the people caught in the media's eye like most people in America? Not generally, no. 3.) Does George Bush really truthfully represent how intelligent we are as a nation? No. I don't care if you think Bush is a genius or a complete dullard; he isn't what most of us would call the epitome of us as Americans everywhere. Politics really aren't the best things to be comparing the intelligence of an entire nation against. It's not as if all of us voted (or would have voted) Bush. And those of us who did aren't at his doorstep orchestrating his moves; we really haven't much control over it past voting, and who knows what a President is REALLY going to do after he meets that point...? Plus, I think small things, even like AB, are a good way to see that people are smart on many levels, and they do not all come from one place.

To be honest I see both sides of the coin because Im born here in the states but my parents are imigrants. Americans for the most part are not unintelligent at all just have too many opinions and everyone seems to think they are right. With that being said I feel many americans believe alot of what they here from a specific source and take it as fact. This causes many different confussing concepts about different topics. an example is the weapons of mass destruction? we found out that they dont exist after months of the bush administration craming it down our throats as fact from "reliable sources". unfortuantly we found ourself in the middle of a never ending civil war from this misinformation and ignorant thinking that everyone wants to be "democratic" and "free" like us. that's why many around the world think we are very aggresive and ignorant people which we arent.
-
Mostly another stereotype. And we're all not fat and lazy too.
-
Not all Englishmen are gay, Not all Irishmen are Alchoholics, Not all Scotsmen are mean. These are all stereotypical ideas . I was not aware that all Americans were made out to be stupid . There is plenty of stupidity in every nationality. We are all prone to the stupid desease on occasions.
-
Consider this. Before you think Americans are so dumb, take a look at the list of Maestros and notice how many Americans are on it.

I think the Americans are very clever people. They are very friendly, warmhearted and sincere as well.I`m telling it like a Russian woman, living in Russia.I have proof they are wonderful here, on Answerbag.
