  • Very much so
  • Never heard that exact quote. Yes, in so many words I think it sums it up pretty well.
  • Correct. Mind you, that Dawkins is a sanctimonious blighter. He's right, but he doesn't have to be so pleased with himself.
  • I think that's pretty much spot on. I also think you could replace the word "astrology" with a great many other similar superstitions.
  • Yes, I do agree. I often worry at the amount of people who seem to take astrology seriously.
  • Hello Baloo. Yes I do agree. I thought the programme on channel four tonight was quite well done. Am looking forward to the next one.
  • It is a religion for sure. Dr. Dawkins believes all religions are superstitions. in this case, I agree. In others, I don't.
  • So is the 'study' of history, if you agree with Jared Diamond in "Gus, Germs and Steel." :-) So is psychology to some extent...there are lots of things that can't be measured, and we can't do direct research on them - the two things that hard science claims for their own -- and yet they are important to study and know about. There's nothing "pseudo" about what the planets do up there - that's physics and astronomy. What the full moon does to the tides, and to clams in their shells, is not "pseudo-science." And if you had my emailbag, you wouldn't doubt what happens during a Venus Retrograde or Saturn Return! Semiramis, Psychic and Astrologer, http://www.webstrategies.cc/PsychicSemiramis.htm .
  • Absolutely! I will admit that I occasionally read the astrological forecasts in the newspaper for personal amusement. But it *amazes* me that people who would die of embarrassment if they ever said "Black people are X", or "Catholics are Y" or "Italians are Q" feel essentially ZERO shame in asserting "Libras are K" or "Geminis are Z" Astrology is WORSE than pseudo-science, it's rank prejudice given a patina of respectability. . . .
  • I agree. Astrology is one of many superstitions that need to be taken less seriously.
  • Yes. I do agree. Many research studies done show that Astrology is nothing more than superstition. Indeed, all the planets are said to affect your personality, and adding new planets deviates the outcome. One must then conclude that either all astrological charts based upon inaccurate numbers of planets are also inaccurate. If you are to tell me you need to know where Neptune and Pluto are to have accurate astrology, then those who had no knowledge of these planets could not possibly have had accurate astrology, and this is by the statements of astrologers themselves. All of it is pure bunk.
  • Astrology is not even a pseudo-science and, usually, the same whack jobs that oppose science are the ones that favor astrology
  • I don't agree with this one at all and probably will be severely downrated for it.It is more a science and not a religion based on superstitions. Astrology has proven many times to be accurate when done properly by an expert. To this day it is known that the sun and moon affect the body in certain ways, such as the full moon.Astrologers know there is a connection between the universe and each person.
  • Too many words. He could have just said "Astrology is superstition" and stopped there.
  • Whole heartedly! I also wish more people read Richard Dawkins.
  • Or elaborate entertainment :) Yes, I agree. Wish I had thought of all this astrology stuff, I'd be filthy rich.
