The rule of thumb is "when in doubt, don't." Cats in the wild eat high protein and often high fat small mammals, fur and all, raw. Occassionally, they will eat insects and plants for specific nutrients. Most of what they eat would be unpalateable to us at best, and unhealthy at worst. The same goes for our food if they eat it. It is best to feed your cat a good quality feline-specific diet made of a combination of kibbles and softer food. A great deal of research goes into these foods to ensure that they are suitable for your cat. Read labels, don't overfeed, and don't feed your cats your leftovers.
