My favorite place to visit (as a local) is the Century Ball Room, which hosts swing dancing every weekend. They offer lessons, and, if your up to the poorly air conditioned atmosphere, it can be a great time. If you aren't underage, or don't have someone underage with you, don't go on underage night. It gets a little youthful, if you know what I mean. Try Mt.Rainier, its always scenic, if you like hikes. There are easy and hard trails. Then there is Capitol Hill, go later at night for a real taste of Seattle: grab a burger at Dicks. Its cheap, and very satisfying! See a Mariners game if you are into baseball. For interesing shops there are two main areas: Ballard and Fremont. both are hip and local. For the best burger, try Red Mill Burgers in Ballard. I know there are whale watching boat tours, never been on one. There is a ferry connected to the local jazz station KPLU 88.5 that does jazz cruises with live music, though this is a little more pricey. China town can be a good place to explore for a couple hours. Don't allot too much time though, its not that big. Try Ivar's down by the waterfront pier for some authentic (and delicious!) seafood. If you want to get out of Seattle and explore neighboring areas, try towns by the water, like Edmonds. Edmonds has a really quiant downtown with nice (but not too expensive) shops, some excellent restaurants like Shell Creek, and live jazz every thursday night at Zu Cafe. Pike Place Market is fun, but get there early, it tends to get crowded. When you are down there, get a pastry at the Russian bakery. It is excellent. My best advice is to just go with it. Seattle is a relatively safe city: if you see an area that you like, explore it. You might discover something! Hope this helps!

When I was there several years ago, my sister and I took a day trip by boat to Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands. I think it was called the Victoria Clipper and is was relatively inexpensive. Plenty of info available at the docks. Dress warmly even in summer! Be sure to include a visit to Beth's Grill for the famous 12-egg omelet! Bill Gates' house on the east shore of Lake Washington in Medina is a huge tourist attraction at 66,000 sq. ft. The Experience Music Project & Science Fiction Museum are not to be missed if either of these things interests you in the least. Then, of course, there is Seattle's famous dead: Bruce Lee & his son, Brandon; Jimmy Hendrix, and Chief Seattle are all buried in Seattle or in close proximity. There is so much always going on in Seattle that it will likely be harder to decide how to narrow down what you are going to be as opposed to wondering what you are going to do.

Spend a half day in the Fremont area. You have to have your picture taken with the troll (just ask someone and they will point you to it). As long as your in Fremont have your picture taken with the bus passengers. (Both of these are local art). Fremont is also close to Ballard, and you have to check out Archie McPhee's (the only place you can get a rubber chicken, fake vomit and a bobble head jesus at one stop. We also have a really good aquarium down on the waterfront.
