Real instruments, always, but since I'm a guitar maker, I tend to be a little biased.

Real instruments but there are cases when synthesised work better. i hate playing on electronic drum kits though

Both it depends on the music genre. on industrial music the synthesizer is needed to make some sounds that you just can't make with real instruments so i think that both are really important.

Synthesisers can sound good (ala Joy Division), but the human element is something to die for.

real instruments. if they're synths, they better be ANALOG sythns as they sound so much better. though, it's not the 70's anymore...
