Being intimate with someone, or having sex with someone? They aren't the same. I have had sex with those I didn't feel any intimacy, and vice-versa. The longest I ever went without sex was 15 years. Barring that, the longest was a little over 2 years. The longest I went without intimacy was...well...depending upon how you define intimacy, anywhere from 2.5 years to 29 years.

I think being intimate with someone is many times more special than 'just' having sex with someone. Although I accept that just sex is not necessarily a negative experience. The longest I have been without intimacy is 4 years.

I went 2 years without sex or intimacy when I broke up with my long time lover. After 2 years I had sex with him once in a moment of weakness and incredibly got pregnant (I was 45 and miscarried following an accident). I've taken 2 one year stints since then. Thought I'd post this so others could get a comparison sorts. The last time I had sex (with a girl ...not including masturbation which occurs regularly for me at about 2-4 times a week) was in 1988 ...although possibly 89' because it's kind of a blur. I'm in my 40's. Believe it or not you get used to it. Is it healthy? I function fine and have a good social life - and I'm not at all deviant in any way either. I just haven't come across someone who means enough to me to be intimate with. And I'd only have sex with intimacy ...which rules out any one night stand and prostitution. To be honest, although I think it's strange, it's really not that big of a deal. I'm definitely not looking to avoid intimacy - it's just that the right circumstances haven't appeared yet. Sure, I could 'force' the issue. But that's not me. Good luck to those who happen to find themselves in a similar situation :)

Going on 5 years now. Lack of it on my now ex's part is why I finally had to leave. People are blown away who I have told how long I have gone without it, but I honestly have grown used to it now. One of my friends told me he would have just cheated, but I preferred to just leave. As sexually frustrated as I am, I just try to put my energy into other things.
