My dad has an old phone that is not in use but his current phone has that number. he told me if i want to use it i hvae to change the number by switching the sim card is that correct ir do i have to just request a new number?

true. if you have a valid simcard with a number you can put it in the phone, however, depending on who your dads carrier is and who your carrier is, the phone may not work. if you are getting a new carrier, bring the phone with you, so they can tell you if it works
