Been on both AB UK and US - is there a difference between them - am i missing something?

No difference. The UK site is a domain name the AB staff have had for a while, and then they realised .co.uk pages rank higher on Google searches from the UK. So basically, it just means that UK citizens supposedly have a higher chance of discovering the site. But it's the exact same. That's what Joel told me anyway. And for anyone wondering where it is, it's at the bottom of the screen.
