Help answer this question below.
I lock it and put on the alarm. The few times I've forgotten I've gone out to find my car gone through. And the one time they stole all of my CD's, but I know who did that one.
No, for a few reasons.
1) I have little of value in the car anyways.. not even the car itself!
2) In the unlikely event that someone wants to steal a car they could do FAR better than my rusty old Golf. Hell, if it's over 75 degrees out, they wouldn't be able to start it anyways!
3) Replacing a broken window would cost nearly as much as replacing the car
For those three reasons, I rarely lock my car anyways. However there are two other reasons applicable to home
4) I live over a mile from pavement. Anybody who wants to walk past multiple other houses with nicer vehiles with better stuff inside and come after me is fucking insane; give 'em what they want!
5) Our state has pretty lenient laws regarding shooting trespassers.
Heck yeah.
All the time. Even if I were the last person alive, I would probably do it out of habit! As it turns out, I now live in a small village, about two miles from the nearest town, and we basically have no crime whatsoever here, but you never know, do you?
I don't even lock the front door when we're out.
I'm on a ranch away from everyone - I don't worry
Yes, I do. I live on the outskirts of a small, safe city in a peaceful neighborhood but it's something I prefer to do. Weirdos aren't confined to certain areas of the country, city or neighborhood. I wouldn't want for my daughter to borrow the car and find there is someone in the back seat further down the road. It's just basic common sense to prevent someone entry to your vehicle. Everyone should lock their car and home, no matter where they live.
That depends.
Are you sending someone over to pick it up right now <chuckle>?
The answer is ... sometimes.
I lock my car doors at all times. I can't even remember when the last time was I didn't. I even have a car my our driveway with 2 flat tires and no gas in the tank and I still have those doors lock!
If it's outside in my driveway " Which it rarely is ", then yes. 99% of the time it's inside our garage with the door down . If it's inside I don't lock it.
Yes I lock my car no matter where is. In the driveway on the street. If it could ift in the garage which it can't cause there is no room there I would even lock it there.
Yes, like almost every one in this area.
if its in the garage, no, but if its out in the driveway, yes and even bigger yes if its on the street
Yes I do lock my car but there is not really any need. I have been out and left the Main House door wide open all day and my patio doors very often open and never had a problem. It is a very quiet area.
Only time the car's unlocked is when someone needs to get in/out
Locked when I leave it (during the day only) in the driveway. Unlocked inside the garage. And I even leave the keys on it.
I only have a driveway. I lock my door out of habit really.
I lock my truck every time, everywhere.
I never lock mine , no matter were I am, my wife always locks hers even in our driveway in the middle of the day !!!!!!!!!
well it used to be that way that my car didnt even have a lock...but hell it had lots of cents and stuff... it also had doors inside... didnt get robbed...except for when the police took off the plate thingy..goddamnit. i guess they couldnt help noticing such a smexy car..lol..(its a wrangler..)
but it haz lock now..
I lock my car occasionally since I park my car in my yard and people have to walk past my house before seeing my car. so I am not really worry
I lock it everywhere.
I had one car stolen, and one almost stolen.
If I hadn't locked the second one, I'd probably have to say that I've had 2 cars stolen.
It depends. This should be a case by case scenario.
Do you park your car on the street?
Is your car far enough away that if there are other cars around you can't hear a door open or close?
Are you going to give people your address and then tell them you don't lock your car?
If you answered yes to any of these than lock your darn car. taking the two seconds to do this saves you a lot of time, money and aggrivation dealing with insurance and police not to mention your boss if you can't get to work because of a damaged or stolen car.
What is the crime rate in your neighborhood like?
I used to live in Youngstown and Cleveland, Ohio....and I parked my car on the street and in a tennant parking garage...Not only did I lock the car but I removed my valuables.
Now after working my butt off I live in a nicer part of Cincinnati, Ohio low crime rate and my car is parked less than 20 steps from my back door and our driveway recesses back past the house to meet the back yard of our Condo / Apartment complex.
I seldom if ever lock my car and I have left my laptop and camera in the back seat. Before I bought the place I did huge research on types of crime and crime rate. I seldom lock my door and mostly just leave my screen door closed and unlocked to get some extra fresh air. My fiance feels safe and leaves her car unlocked.....but I am an ex-Marine and I sleep with a loaded Glock 40cal under my mattress.
It's a rental, I don't lock it..lol :)
no,i don't lock my car when i am at home.because i own a 96 pound pit bull.
absolutely, i lock my doors ,you dont know my white trash neighbors i have
If it isn't in the closed garage, then I lock it.
I rarely lock my car. It's 13 years old and I figure it's really not worth stealing. The only time I do is when I have something valuable inside the car or I'm traveling to a larger city.
ALWAYS. you cant leave it unlocked because people cant go out and buy there own stuff they have to steal. ecspecialy when you warm it up in the winter cause thats when most get stolen.
always lock it anywhere and anytime...i live in more like a dodgy-not safe area....ahhhh
i always lock the car and put the alarm on
Yes, for the newer cars
No, for the rusted out 81 pickup
Yes, for the newer cars
No, for the rusted out 81 pickup
I live in Fayetteville NC I lock my car no matter where i am or what time of day...My home has been broken into once in my old location i dont trust my car unlocked.
I know it sounds silly, but I never lock my door. I'm always afraid I'll lock my keys in there.
I lock my car everywhere, including the gas station. Stupid me locked the keys in it at the gas station last week lol!
Always have and always will. I'm very untrusting when it comes to that. My new car will now lock itself if I don't but even with the old cars, I would make sure to lock them when I got home.
I lock my car whenever im away from it. Quite frankly I just dont trust people.
........No, I trust the car thieves with the same contemp weather my car is in my driveway or the K-mart parking lot and LOCK IT!
i lock my car unless it is in my garage. if it is outside of the garage, at home or anywhere else it is locked. years ago i had a really crappy car and i left it unlocked all the time, because it didn't start and the stereo was from 20 years before.
I am more trusting at home.
Though I pity the poor individual who would try to break that trust of mine. It may be a painful experience for them.
Yep, I sure do.
Having had three cars stolen, I've pretty much gotten to the point where I leave the windows open and the keys in the ignition. Locks and alarms? Hardy har har. If someone wants your car, they're gonna take it.
We always lock our truck and set the alarm. We live in a apartment complex and though we have a garage, my partner has turned it into a workshop. If we had the truck parked in the garage, we would lock the garage. There have been some cars stolen and a few that suffered break-ins. Even though our truck is not that expensive ('92 Toyota) we would hate to lose her! :)
Yeah I always lock it, except if I go to my moms. She lives in a tiny little town.
No, I don't think it has ever been locked at home. (except when I lived in the city.)
where i live it is safer when i am out
I leave the keys in mine hopping someone will haul that junk off for me. ...M.C.S.
at home my dad does b/c he has all his tools in it and doesnt take the chance. but my mom doesn't really do it at all but it also depends if she's keeping something in it. but my family lives in a cul de sac which no one ever goes into so we dont really have to worry about anyone coming in.
Yes I lock my car!

You're reading Do you lock your car when you are home ( in your driveway, garage, on the street)? Or are you more trusting when you are at home?

It hurts to have things stolen, doesn't it? Kind of like a personal invasion.
by Galeanda on August 5th, 2007
Yeah, I did it was my neighbor who helped me bring my groceries up to the door. He took them out and stuck them some where else till he could come get them later. Oh, and he knew the ones Jay made me and Gavin were in there. Only thing is without the CD's themselves in his possesion I can't prove it.
Yes, it does, Galeanda, sick thing is the last time he saw me he asked me out. He's fricking married and a druggie. She's in jail. The cpos around here know them on a first name basis. Not my cup of tea, thank you.

Thanks for sharing your story. Sorry that happened to you. I kow what it feels like to have stuff stolen and it's awful. And knowing who it is must be bad, too:-(

Thanks for listening to my rant. And it sure does. I just live on the knowledge he'll get his.
