Family history of cancer. Random new mole showed up on my body this week. Small, oval-to-round, brown, slightly raised. No sun exposure. It's in an embarrassing area and I've tried to cut it off so it looks worse than it is. Go to the doctor or not?

Definately...and please dont cut your own moles off, thats very dangerous, especially if its cancerous! my chap cut 2 of his off and they came back worse! i worked on the dermotology and radiotherapy departments, they can either cryogenically remove your mole or they can lance it out, and if it is cancerous they will either operate to remove it or give it a couple of # (fractions)of radiotherapy, either way if caught early you should be ok :)

oh dear, go to the Doctor for sure!! Embarrassment is nothing when compared to such a serious and dangerous risk like that :)
