Yes definitely so.
-
I don't think so. It is unfair to the criminal.
-
No, that is just mean.

I don't think so. If you are punishing and humiliating criminals in the public you will satisfy all types of people who enjoy sadistic performances. All that we had in medieval times where public punishments were celebrated like a happy festival. Everybody can imagine which type of people would enjoy such a public celebration and a society does not become more peaceful but more aggressive. In all western constitutions there is the most important value the dignity of men. Even a criminal is a human being with a dignity.

No, punishment is a form of learning a lesson from the wrong that you have done. Jail is a place to think things over, to understand your wrong doings...and the death penelty, is just...well punishment for a very unjust sin (i suppose)....Punishment for a child is stickin them in the corner, so they can think about what they did and realize not to do it again...and after punishment comes the "im sorry" and "I wont do it again"...public humiliation doesnt solve any problem, it only strips everything away from the person...and makes them hate the people even more, making them want to retaliate and commit more wrongs. You wanna punish somebody let em think about what they did, or punish them in a way that creates understanding. Now if they humiliated somebody in front of a crowd...it could be a just punishment, so they can feel and understand the humiliation, but otherwise? I think it would be horrible.

I suppose it would depend on the crime.

It can't work worse than the current system. When can we start?

I'm in favor of victim's justice, where if someone commits a murder with video tape evidence(so you absolutely know you didn't get the wrong guy), every living parent, sibling, and spouse of the victim gets to slash them a certain number of times across the abdomen for a "death of a thousand cuts". For serial killers, each family member would receive fewer swipes, and in case of no living relatives, or none willing to participate, the cuts would be administered by a state executioner. But as far as a public spectacle, no it should be done privately, but recorded and available for viewing by request.

In medieval times they had the stocks where offenders were presented to the public. Everybody could spit, piss, tease and mock at these people.
