Get a lawyer. You can go to jail. A good judge will delay your next court date so you can get a judge. Until you get a lawyer, don't talk to any of their lawyers or sign anything the District Attorney or offended company sends you.

Shoplifting is a serious offense. if you are convicted, your arrest record will remain, the rest of your life. The dollar amount of the item stolen, is not important. its the personal act, that is complex. The theory is, that if you shoplifted an item for $5.00, you will steal anything, worth a lot more. A shoplifting conviction will terminate your chances of a government job, being bonded, or possibly achieving good employment, in your future. Most people do not realize this.
